Maia is expert in modelling behaviour on multiple scales in order to predict large-scale patterns from an understanding of more detailed phenomena. This is an essential feature of all our work.
We model the behaviour of individual people to understand the effects at the crowd level. Microscopic models created in the Legion simulator developed by Maia allow the users to see what will happen when large numbers of people interact in a given space. Such models are used to make important decisions about the design and operation of public buildings.
We also model the local actions and reactions of traders in financial markets so we can estimate the larger scale dynamics that are likely to follow. In our work for Rudyerd we have created a fully automatic real-time trading system that uses such modelling to predict future price movements in the foreign exchange market.
